Mohanlal, is a famous Indian actor, film producer, playback singer, television host and film distributor. In addition to occasionally making appearances in films in the languages of Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, and Kannada, Mohanlal mostly works in the Malayalam film industry. Mohanlal has had a long and successful career, appearing in more than 400 films over the course of four decades. His peers in the Indian film industry have lauded Mohanlal's contributions to Malayalam cinema. 

For his services to Indian cinema, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019, India's fourth and third highest civilian honours. He received the honorary rank of Lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army in 2009, making him the first actor in India to receive such a distinction.

Mohanlal’s full name is Mohanlal Viswanathan Nair. Mohanlal’s birthplace is Elanthoor, Kerala, India. Mohanlal’s religion is Hinduism. Mohanlal’s height is 1.72m or 5’8. At the age of 18, Mohanlal made his acting debut in the Malayalam film Thiranottam in 1978; however, the film's premiere was postponed for 25 years due to censorship concerns. He made his acting debut as the antagonist in the 1980 romantic movie Manjil Virinja Pookkal. In the ensuing years, he progressed to secondary starring roles while still playing villains.

By the mid-1980s, he established himself as a bankable leading actor and acquired celebrity after acting in several hit films in 1986; the murder drama Rajavinte Makan released that year heightened his stardom. Although Mohanlal favours working in Malayalam movies, he has also made appearances in a few Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada movies. His best-known non-Malayalam movies are the Telugu film Janatha Garage (2016), the Hindi crime drama Company (2002), and the Tamil political drama Iruvar (1997).

Mohanlal has won various awards, including nine Kerala State Film Awards, the Filmfare Awards South, and five National Film Awards, including two Best Actor, a Special Jury Mention, a Special Jury Award, and an award for Best Feature Film (as producer). In 2010 and 2018, the University of Calicut and Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, respectively, awarded him honorary doctorates.

Mohanlal is renowned for his charitable endeavours as well. In order to develop and offer high-impact and targeted programmes to the impoverished sectors of society in the areas of healthcare and education, he formed the ViswaSanthi Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation.
